Wally and Wally Case came about because of necessity -- the iPhone 5 wallet case solution we wanted simply wasn't available, so we made one ourselves! When we introduced Wally Stick-On, the aim was to be as minimal as possible, i.e. no case. But there's a reason why the market is flooded with iPhone cases -- people love 'em! So we embraced the case.
Combining different materials and textures is something that fuels us here at Distil Union. We dove into the myriad combinations and settled on a series that would be for Kickstarter, and some that would continue on beyond the campaign. Here's a glimpse at the inspiration board for the White/Brown Wally Case that was exclusive to Kickstarter:
The case is solid polycarbonate (same thing race car windshields, the new iPhone 5C, and Chris Sabo's goggles are made of) with a matte finish for a refined look. We sourced a premium, soft leather with smooth finish that not only stands up to daily wear and tear, but will develop a handsome patina, just like your old wallet.
What can Wally Case carry?
We recommend carrying up to 4 cards or a similar sized load, such as:
ID + debit card + business card ... 2 plastic cards + a folded bill ... 4 business cards ... Subway card + folded bills ... You get the idea :) Pro Tip: Use an app like Vallet to digitize your contents and carry less!
Does having my credit cards on my iPhone damage them?
Nope! Your cards are perfectly safe in Wally. What can damage cards is magnets, and Wally contains NO MAGNETS (unlike some wallet cases out there, which Apple warns magnets near your iPhone are a bad idea). There's a small magnet inside your iPhone, but it's not nearly strong enough to have an effect on your credit cards. There's anecdotal evidence that the old-style hotel cards can be affected by the magnet in a cellphone, but in our experience Wally is just as safe as your wallet for your cards.
How do I get my cards out?
Remember pop-up books as a kid? We use a fine grosgrain ribbon and that same pop-up book pull-tab action for the same magical reveal. It's low-tech, but it works!
How is Wally Case different from Wally?
Think of Wally Case as stick-on Wally’s protective big brother: Wally Case provides all the functionality of Wally Stick-On’s discreet and minimal wallet, plus the added protection of a strong, slim shell. Wally Case is made of solid polycarbonate (the same thing race car windshields are made of) combined with premium leather, with the attention to detail that only the originators of Wally can deliver.
Also, Wally Case can carry more than Wally Stick-On simply because the leather has been bonded to the case, which alleviates the upward strain on the adhesive caused by inserting too much into the leather pocket. What, TMI?
And last but not least, we've incorporated a smart lil' strip of elastic inside the pocket. It's barely noticeable, but it's there if you need it: say, if your leather has stretched to accommodate what you usually carry, but you'd like to carry less for the evening. Or you can slide your folded cash underneath for peace of mind -- it's not going anywhere.. until you want to spend it.
Why is Wally Case the best iPhone 5 wallet case?
We did a ridiculous amount of market research when we were designing our first Wally. Please, allow Nate to demonstrate how we've solved the issues where others let you down:
Does Wally Case protect the front of my iPhone?
There's a very minimal lip that will ever-so-slightly raise your iPhone so you can set it face down on clean surfaces. That being said, this is a snap-on style case and does not wrap around to the front of the iPhone screen. This keeps things slim, and is perfect for those of us with a screen protector/film on your iPhone screen -- Wally Case won't cause the film to come up along the edges like slide-on cases do.
